Updated Makeup Routine
SO, I figured it was about time to update you guys on my current makeup routine. You can find my previous makeup routine blog post from last year under the Beauty tab - I still use some of the same products, but have switched out/incorporated some new ones that have made such a difference!
For starters, skin prep is V IMPORTANT and it’s crucial in getting the most flawless makeup application possible. I’ll share a few things I do in order to achieve this:
GOOD moisturizer - you need to have your skin as hydrated as possible in order for makeup to sit well on top of it. If you don’t, it’s like putting makeup on a dry sponge - it’s just going to seep into all the holes. Not cute. My go-tos are the Magic Cream (if you’ve been following me for awhile, then you know how addicted I am to this stuff!) and most recently I’ve also been loving Shiseido’s Gel Moisturizer (if your skin is more on the oily side, use a gel-based moisturizer!).
GOOD Eye Cream - Eye cream is key to avoid your concealer from creasing. I like to use this brightening/depuffing one (LOVE this one especially on no make-up days as it lessens the appearance of your under eye bags) and then this fast response eye cream - I’m OBSESSED with this shit. I’ve noticed it helps tremendously in preventing any creasing.
Ice Roller - I do this almost every single morning, and always before makeup application! After applying my moisturizer, I take this baby out of the freezer and roll over my entire face for about 5 minutes. It is SO refreshing. It closes your pores, reduces redness, depuffs + debloats (AKA thins out your face - HELL YES) and also helps to tighten your skin.
SPF - This should be a no brainer, but it’s still v surprising how many people skip this step! SPF is key to aging well and preventing any further skin damage, lines, and dark spots from getting darker. I love this one as I find it sits perfectly under makeup without any pilling and also this one which is a spray and perfect for spraying over your makeup.
ONTO THE GOODS:
I’ve been into the dewy/radiant look for the past 6 months and the two primers below have not only helped keep my makeup intact but also gives off some radiance.
This is probably my favorite product I discovered in 2018 by far. I officially cannot live without this. I’ve tried so many products that promise to give me a hella dewy look, and nothing compares to this! I put some on a beauty blender (my favorite is the pro) and apply it all over. You instantly see a difference and it still shimmers through your foundation which is a huge plus in my book. I also use these on no-makeup days as it gives off the best natural glow.
Unfortunately, my holy grail airbrush foundation by Sephora that I’ve been using for 4+ years is ALWAYS out of stock so I had no choice but to find a replacement.
Dior Forever Undercover - I am BEYOND picky when it comes to foundation hence why I’ve been using the same one religiously for 4+ years till they decided to break my heart. I am so happy I discovered this back in October because it is officially my new best friend. Coverage is INCREDIBLE (legit one layer and it covers every. single. thing.), lasts ALL day long, and most importantly isn’t heavy where it feels like you have 12 pounds of cake on your face. I wear shade 025 Soft Beige.
Laura Mercier Flawless Lumière Radiance-Perfecting Foundation - I recently tried this one a few weeks back, and so far I love it! It’s a tiny bit dewier than the Dior, but doesn’t make you look oily. Coverage isn’t as good as the Dior but two layers and you’re good if you want full-coverage. The shade I wear is a bit too dark (ya girl is pale AF) but if you use Sephora’s shade finder, you can find the exact color match from a foundation you already use/previously used.
Ok, so if you read my previous makeup routine then you know I mentioned how I loooooove(d) Tarte’s Shape Tape. Yeah no, not anymore. It is WAY too drying and I couldn’t deal with it anymore. Sucks because the coverage is unreal, but it’s not worth it to me to have dry undereyes which can age you even quicker - NO THANK YOU. I’ve thankfully found some replacements that I am even happier with!
BECCA Under Eye Brightening Corrector - Again, if you follow me you know this shit is my jam. I will FOREVER use this till I’m 87. If you have dark circles, concealer will only do so much. You NEED a color corrector and that’s where this comes into play. It color corrects like magic and leaves you with bright, radiant under eyes. I usually use this on its own for daytime (and I’m not lying when everyone always asks what concealer I’m wearing because its that good) and for nighttime, I’ll sometimes add a concealer on top.
Laura Mercier Secret Concealer - This has amazing coverage and is nice + creamy. Doesn’t crease and definitely doesn’t dry out your undereyes like the shape tape.
Revlon Fill + Blur Concealer - Good ole drugstore never fails. I love using this if I want a brighter undereye + want to highlight the f*ck out of my face (mainly for nighttime).
Lancome's Teint Idole Ultra Wear Camouflage Concealer - I use this to spot conceal/hide any blemishes and it works like a charm.
This spray is a muuuuuuuuuust. I spray this after all my liquids and again after my powder, bronzer and blush. I find that in doing this it seals everything together and gives off a flawless look.
I don't like using TOO much powder because that's when your makeup starts to look cakey. So I love applying this It Cosmetics Poreless Airbrush Pressed Powder very lightly and instead of sweeping it across my face, I press the product into my skin as I find sweeping moves product around (may just be in my head BUT it works so yolo).
And of course, the Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder is a necessity, no questions asked. I looooove baking with this (I use the puff to apply a heavy amount under my eyes, between eyebrows, on smile lines, and below my contour (gotta chizzle those cheekbones girl!), leave it on for 5-10 minutes while I’m doing my brows, then brush off the excess). If you want your concealer to last, make sure you use this.
I only contour with Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Bronzer as it's matte and the perfect shade. It smells incredible too. Make sure when you contour, you're using a MATTE, cool-toned bronzer.
Shiseido’s Inner Cheek Powder in Alpen Glow is the best. I hate blushes that are too pink, and this is the perfect coral shade that looks v natural and BEAUTIFUL.
No such thing as too much highlight. My favorite highlighter is Laura Mercier’s Radiance Baked Powder in 01 - it is A DREAM. So glowy and lasts all day. I pack this shit on my cheekbones, bridge of my nose, cupid’s bow, and underneath the arch of my eyebrows.
Anastasia Beverly Hills is the queen of eyebrows, so you bet your ass that I use her Dipbrow Pomade (shade Dark Brown). I apply it with this Elf Small Angled Brush - brows will look on point, promise.
So I haven't worn mascara in God only knows how long (3 years give or take) because of lash extensions (btw, if you want to cut time on your makeup routine GET LASH EXTENSIONS. THEY'RE LIFE CHANGING AND YOU LITERALLY WAKE UP EVERY DAY FEELING PRETTY. JUST DO IT. AND IF YOU NEED A LASH TECH AND LIVE IN LOS ANGELES, I'M YOUR GIRL). However, before I started lash extensions, I used this Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir Mascara and it made my lashes soooooo freakin long and didn't run.
I can't speak for my top lashes, but my bottom lashes are HELLA LONG thanks to YSL's The Shock Volumizing Mascara. I have yet to find another mascara that makes my bottom lashes look like they do when I wear the YSL. So if it does that for my bottom lashes, I'm going to assume they'll make your top lashes a mile longer too.
My go-to lipstick is the Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk (I def need to buy the lip liner ASAP). This shade is the most beautiful pinky nude, and isn’t drying which I love.
On top, I usually only wear this Dior Addict Lip Maximizer Plumping Gloss in light pink glossy. I wouldn’t say it plumps my lips that much, but the gloss itself is incredible, and I’ll sometimes even wear it alone.
I have officially found the solution to prevent your makeup from transferring (you know when you say hi to someone and your face ends up on their shirt? no more!) and lasting all day long. It’s the Final Seal - Ben Nye creates theater + stage makeup so all of his products are made to last under lights and long wear. I tested it for you guys on my IG stories too, but if you missed it, I basically took a tissue to my face after wearing makeup for 8+ hours and NOTHING came off on the tissue. My mind was truly blown.
I like more of a dewy finish and the Final Seal is a matte finish, so what I like to do is spray the Milani Make It Dewy setting spray first, wait till it dries, then apply the Final Seal.
This last step is a GAME CHANGER if you want to be a glowing goddess. I discovered this tip from JLO’s makeup artist, Scott Barnes - he sprays Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Sunscreen all over her face, neck and chest as the very last step. I tested it out and the glow is UNREALLLLL. Plus, the SPF protection is a bonus.
I like to call the above my triple threat. Do it and you won’t be disappointed!
There ya have it! My current makeup routine. I’ll film a makeup tutorial soon so stay tuned.
